'Grandpa Gang' Jailed
'GRANDPA GANG' JAILED
A trio of elderly bank robbers - dubbed the "grandpa gang" - have been jailed for making off with more than $903,000 USD in a series of daring raids.
The men, aged between 64 and 74, carried out 14 armed hold-ups on banks between 1988 and 2004.
The youngest member was jailed for 12 years while his 73 and 74-year-old accomplices were given 10 and nine years respectively.
The men, Rudolf Richter, Wilfried Ackermann and Lothar Ackermann, have already spent most of their lives behind bars - the 73-year-old gang leader had served a 40-year sentence.
German media reported he took to robbing banks because the state pension he built up behind bars was not enough to live on.
